Whether it's for a few months while you are remodeling, or a few years while you are building your dream home, your piano deserves not to freeze in the winter or roast in the summer while kept in a typical self-storage unit!
In Montana, sub-freezing temperatures can damage the carefully engineered wooden parts of your piano and cause glue joints to separate. Cold and extreme heat can both damage the soundboard, which is the heart of your piano, as well as the finish, bridges and pinblock. This damage can reach the point of making repairs to your piano impractically expensive.
Humidity control is also important, as too little moisture in the air also affects all the wooden parts and can even lead to warping of the keys and action components. Too much moisture causes rust accumulation on the strings, and can make felt parts swell, making the action sluggish and reducing the effectiveness of dampers.
Electronic surveillance and restricted-entry locks help keep your instrument safe from unauthorized intrusion. I would love to give your piano the temporary accommodations it needs to come back home in the best possible health.
